Manu Krishnan was born in Cochin, Kerala on 25th October 1988, to family with deep appreciation and practice of traditional Carnatic music (South Indian Classical Music). His father Unnikrishnan Unni V, a singer and vocals teacher started to teach him carnatic vocals at the early age of five. By age eight he began training in Mridangam (Indian percussive instrument) under the mentorship of Palaghat T.R. Rajamani. By age fifteen he took to drums, intrigued by its versatile application in various forms of music. Within a short span of time he gained rapid recognition for his stellar live performances and unique take on music emerging at the time.
At present Manu Krishnan is touring with The F16s, Baiju Dharmajan, Jatayu, The Casteless Collective, Chaos and Escher’s Knot. He also sessions for well known artists such as Masala Coffee, The Down Troddence, Sanah Moidutty to name a few.
Teaching Credentials
As a professional drummer he has been affiliated with various music schools as a drum faculty and is now being called upon as a visiting consultant to review and appraise drum education at select schools. Currently he is a visiting faculty at Corner House Music School and he also gives private lessons.
